Danny Sims, former manager of Bob Marley is dead

Danny Sims, the former manager of Bob Marley died in Los Angeles, U.S. on Sunday.

Danny Sims was born in Mississippi, but was raised in Chicago and New York City, where he later went into the entertainment business in the 1950s.

Sims had signed Bob Marley and the Wailers to a five-year contract in 1967.

Sims sold Chris Blackwell, the remainder of Marley's contract in 1972. He later reunited with Marley and became his manager shortly before his death in 1981.

He brought several soul artistes to Jamaica in the early 1960s, including longtime business partner Johnny Nash, who was one of the early reggae pioneers.

Sims produced many songs with the group for his and Nash's JAD Records label and signed several acts to his Cayman Publishing company.

In recent years Sims, according to the website hermosdarecords.com was working on releasing several never-heard-before Bob Marley songs.

Sims was married to supermodel Beverly Johnson in 1977, they separated in 1979 and later divorced. They have one daughter, Anansa.
