Dancehall Artist Captain Barkey Found Dead Outside Bronx Motel

NEW YORK (CBSNY) - Police discovered two people dead early Saturday in the parking lot of a Bronx motel.

As 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reports, the shots rang out just after 3 a.m. Saturday at the Holiday Motel, at 2291 New England Thruway just west of Conner Street, in the Eastchester section of the borough.

Hotel guests and workers were shaken.

One man was partying with friends in Room 204, and he could not believe what he saw – a woman below outside Room 104 was screaming. He said it looked as though she was begging for her life, but he shot her twice.

“We heard like four or five gunshots, and then we all look out the window and there’s a lady standing there, and then he shoots her once, and shoots her again, and she goes down on the ground,” he said.

He said the woman fell to the ground and died.

A woman who was partying with the man in Room 204 added: “All I heard was the gunshots. We were quiet. We were freaking out.”

The body of a man described as heavy-set was found outside the main office of the motel. The Fire Department said he was shot in the head.

Blood seemed to be splattered everywhere.

Friends identified the slain man as a reggae musician from Milwaukee, Wayne Hamilton, who goes by the stage name Captain Barkey.

After killing Hamilton, the shooter chased the woman, 38-year-old Tracy Bennett, to the back of the hotel. She pleaded for her own life before she too was shot dead.
