Many successful Reggae Riddims of years past have possessed some form of proverbial weaponry with basslines that can cut through glass like knives or instrumentals that instantly soothes nerves like tranquilizers. Now, the son of a legendary producer looks to create a similar effect with his ‘Six String Cutlass.’
Kareem ‘Remus’ Burrell, son of the late great Reggae producer, Philip ‘Fattis’ Burrell has followed in his legendary father’s footsteps by unveiling his debut compilation, the Six String Cutlass Riddim. The Riddim was produced by Burrell via his new label, XTM Nation, a modified version of his father’s highly renowned Xterminatoroutlet.
The Riddim features a slew of young talent on a Riddim that makes any listener feel as if he or she was front row at a live performance with its heart-pounding instrumentals accompanied by a pure Reggae vibe.
Burrell’s Six Strong Cutlass compilation features fast-rising Reggae star, Cali P, who delivers an empowering and motivational effort with Can’t Hold I & I. It also showcases classy veteran Reggae singer, Mikey General who urges Jamaican people to keep hold alive through the struggles brought upon by society in his track, Something Haffi Gwaan.
Emerging Reggae star, Jesse Royal once again proves his worth as a legitimate force within the genre as he embodies those who try to fight through adversity using spiritual guidance via his single, Hotter the Battle, which hails as a tribute to the iconic Burkinabe revolutionary, Thomas Sankara. With his new Misheni mixtape currently blazing in the streets as well as his collaborative effort with Lutan Fyah (Loyal Soldier) earning rave reviews, Hotter The Battle only solidifies his place as a budding Reggae superstar under the guidance of Burrell and his label.
Meanwhile, highly acclaimed Reggae diva, Kayla Bliss also offers her full potential as a noteworthy presence on the music scene as she delivers the emotionally-charged single, Tears of a Soldier. The single plays on words eloquently as it talks of love in war-like terms as it expands on the feelings of hurt and sadness as well as adversity that tests the wills of any man and woman involved in a committed relationship. Bliss puts on a spirited display in Tears of a Soldier as she frankly evokes memories of a young Etana.
Each of the aforementioned singles on the Six String Cutlass compilation is available for free download via Mediafire as well as for your listening pleasure on Soundcloud. Surely, Burrell’s status within the producing ranks will elevate through the Six String Cutlass as the Riddim gives credence to his abilities while continuing the undying legacy his father left behind.
